Frequently Asked Questions

Commercial solar panels: cost and fittings

  • Prices for commercial solar panels vary depending on a number of factors for each business. Contact the MEC team, we can visit the premises and talk through your options.

  • While there is no government funding or grants available for commercial solar panels, you might be eligible for an incentive the government is running called the Smart Export Guarantee. You can read more about it on OfGem’s website.

  • The Renewable Energy Funding Scheme is an initiative aimed at supporting businesses with loans they can use to invest in renewable energy technology. These business loans are designed to help improve a business’ green credentials by improving sustainability and energy efficiency.

If you are approved to receive a business loan through the Renewable Energy Funding Scheme, you can use the funding to install commercial solar panels, invest in electrical vehicles (EV), change to LED lighting and more.

  • Solar panel suitability for businesses will vary depending on the premises you’re in. Contact the MEC team to book in a free site visit and no-obligation quote.

If you are eligible for solar panels, they can help reduce your business’ impact on the environment as well as offsetting your standard usage and potentially saving money on your overall costs. Speak to the MEC team for more information.

  • The 0% VAT discount for solar installations is a government incentive scheme for renewable energy installations that was rolled out in April 2022 and will continue for 5 years until 2027. This incentive will be automatically applied by us – MEC – as your chosen installer.

It’s also worth noting that at the moment (last updated Jan 2023) the government has waived VAT on all parts linked with a photovoltaic installation. This means items that are installed at the same time, but not specifically solar, no longer have VAT for domestic customers. So, potentially, customers can have home battery installations and EV chargers installed at the same time as a solar panel system and not have to pay VAT. Speak to the MEC team for more information.

  • With the rising costs of energy, commercial renewables can help businesses to lower emissions, increasing green credentials, while making much-needed savings. MEC provides fully integrated solutions, including commercial solar panels and battery storage.
